Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, also known as CBT, is the most widely known counseling modality. CBT is a goal-focused treatment working to help people solve problems in their life. The foundation of CBT is to change a person's thought process or perceptions of situations to change their feelings and behaviors. CBT is a collaborative approach that engages the clients in their growth.

Safe and Sound Protocol

Nourish and awaken the nervous system. Feel better. Think better. Connect better. The Safe and Sound Protocol, or SSP, is a non-invasive application of Polyvagal Theory, based on decades of research and developed by Dr. Stephen Porges, Unyte's Chief Scientific Advisor. The SSP program, facilitated by qualified and certified professionals, employs a practical bottom-up approach to help people regulate their nervous system more consistently and independently. By using carefully curated music, the person can listen to a music session while regulating their nervous system.

Music Therapy

Music Therapy is the clinical use of evidence-based music utilized by a credentialed Masters's level therapist. Through the medium of music, a person can explore their emotional needs to obtain their self-fulfilling goals. A Music Therapist may have a person read, write and perform songs and music that will help explore their feelings and needs at a deeper level. For some, music is a non-threatening way to express their deepest thoughts and feelings. A client's newly acquired skills and self-awareness can be used in everyday life.

Yoga Group Therapy

Yoga Group Therapy combines the expertise of a trained counselor that also holds a yoga teacher certification with further certification in trauma-focused yoga. The group begins with a yoga class and transitions to a talk therapy group. The groups are created around common themes and topics such as anxiety, depression, fertility, and trauma. For more information, please reach out to Kris. You can also visit the yoga page for specific depression, anxiety, and trauma yoga classes.

Sandplay Therapy

In addition to traditional talk therapy, Peace of Mind Counseling and Wellness Center utilizes the modality of Sandplay Therapy. Sandplay Therapy, originated by Carl Jung and Dora Kalff, is an effective and enjoyable counseling tool used with children, adolescents, and adults. Sandplay consists of the client's creation of a world with miniature figures in a tray of sand in the protective presence of a trained counselor. Then, using symbolism, the three-dimensional figures are used in a hands-on process in the sand tray. By way of a person's own experiences and creation, sandplay can be used to heal from trauma successfully.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a comprehensive, integrative psychotherapy approach. It contains elements of many effective psychotherapies in structured protocols designed to maximize treatment effects. These include psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, interpersonal, experiential, and body-centered therapies. EMDR psychotherapy is an information processing therapy that uses an eight-phase approach to address the experiential contributors of many pathologies. It attends to the past experiences that have set the groundwork for pathology. These current situations trigger dysfunctional emotions, beliefs, and sensations, and the positive experience needed to enhance future adaptive behaviors and mental health.
